Intermodal Transportation Committee (ITC)

Meetings

  • Meetings are typically held bi-monthly on the first Wednesday of the month at 11:00 AM in City Hall.

Committee

The ITC has been established to review and evaluate the following transportation issues:

  1. To cause to be prepared, review and recommend to the city council a formal street system thoroughfare plan and to review and recommend subsequent changes to such plan. The Intermodal Transportation Committee should be the keeper of the thoroughfare plan.
  2. To recommend to the city council concerning infrastructure reduction strategies. Existing low traffic volume roadways in the city should be identified, abandoned and redeveloped. Street closures and other traffic calming techniques, upon implementation will reduce impact loading on the roadway.
  3. To cause to be prepared, review and recommend to the city council a formal hike and bike system plan and to review and recommend subsequent changes to such plan.
  4. To cause to be prepared, review and recommend to the city council a safe walk to school and park sidewalk trail program and to review and recommend subsequent changes to such plan.
  5. To work with city staff to select and prioritize projects that may be most eligible for funding under the Federal Transportation Efficiency Act 21st Century (TEA 21) and make recommendations to the city council regarding the suitability for such a funding request relative to other priorities the city may identify.
  6. To seek out and advocate Intermodal Transportation Funding for the implementation of the above plans through the local council of governments (Houston Galveston Area Council - HGAC and Texas Department of Transportation - TXDOT) and to participate in the search of local obligation matching funds for such projects.
  7. To review and make recommendations to the city council concerning the acceptability of all formal planning reports regarding the various modes of transportation in the city.
  8. To review data and information developed to support Livable Communities Initiative ("LCI") improvements through the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) for the enhanced interaction between transit facilities and the surrounding community through improvement of access, streetscapes, safety, security, lighting, landscaping, and related items using leveraged federal funds for improvements ("LCI improvement program").
