Mike has served on various City Boards and Commissions over the years, including:
Planning Commission, Landmark Commission and Charter Review Committee; chaired Galveston’s 1900 Storm Centennial Committee
Community Organization Service
Galveston Historical Foundation, past president and longtime board member; Galveston Foundation; Chamber of Commerce and a founder of the East End Historical District Association.
Currently the Rosenberg Library board President, Sealy & Smith Foundation board member, UTMB Development Board, George Ball Charity Association board president and Knights of Momus Mardi Gras Krewe, founding board member
Michael C. Doherty is a fourth generation Galvestonian. After graduating from the College of Santa Fe (New Mexico) he attended the US Army Officer Candidate School at Fort Knox, Kentucky and was commissioned a lieutenant in Armor, serving two years as Adjutant of the 2nd Brigade, 1st Armored Division at Fort Hood, Texas.
Returning to Galveston, he joined the First Hutchings-Sealy National Bank, at the time the largest bank in the County. He spent his banking career with FHSNB and is successors, including managing the Trust Department and later Banking Center President. In 1993 he joined the board of the Sealy & Smith Foundation, and in 1997, after 28 years in banking, he joined the staff of the Foundation, retiring in June 2015 as Executive Director.
Mike and his wife, Weez, have two children, Rebekah Lee and Mick, and three grandchildren.
