Bike Around the Bay returns for its eleventh year in a fully supported two-day, 170-mile bicycle ride around Galveston Bay that showcases the natural beauty of Galveston Bay & benefits the Galveston Bay Foundation. Bike Around the Bay began with the goal of bringing people together from all over to see & experience Galveston Bay. The ride will begin at Royal Purple Raceway in Baytown, TX on Saturday, October 21, 2017. Participants will make their way to Galveston via Ferry Landing to Harborside Drive to 25th St to Seawall Blvd to 81st St & overnight at Moody Gardens on the 21st. On the 22nd, the participants will move from Moody Gardens to Jones Drive to Stewart Road to 61st St & on to the Causeway. For a detailed view of the entire route, please click here. ARToberFEST returns for their 20th year, on October 21st and 22nd to the historic Downtown area! The Juried Fine Art Festival is hosted by The Grand 1894 Opera House, and features a wide variety of art, including ceramics, glass, jewelry, metal, painting, drawing, photography, textiles, wood, and mixed media approaches in a beautiful setting. There will also be live music, food and fun to enjoy! ARToberFEST will be on 22nd Street (between Market and Church) and on Postoffice St (between 21st and 23rd Streets). The 36th Annual Galveston Island Oktoberfest, hosted by First Lutheran Church, returns October 27th and 28th for a fun Fall celebration of German music, food, sweets and drinks as well as arts & crafts, auctions, vendors, and kids activities! The two-day event will be held on 24th Street (between Church and Ball) and Winnie Street (between 23rd and 25th Streets). This area will be closed to traffic beginning Thursday, October 26th at 9:00 AM and will reopen on Sunday, October 29th at 12:00 PM. The Daily News Press Run returns for their 6th annual Walk/Run/Jog to support the Newspapers In Education program on Saturday, September 9th, 2017.
