City Announces Transition to New .GOV Website

The City of Galveston is excited to announce that a number of positive changes to the City’s official communication outlets are currently underway to better connect with the community. Over the next twelve months, the City will work to transition from cityofgalveston.org to galvestontx.gov. This includes updating all City email addresses with a more user-friendly format as well as the renaming of City web portals including the online utility billing payment portal. Residents will also notice a change to municipal TV channel 16 as all videos currently streaming will be updated to reflect the new official City web address and staff emails. In addition, this June all audio and video equipment will be replaced to provide an HD feed for viewers. AT&T U-Verse customers will now be able to view the channel for the first time ever!

During this phased implementation, the official City website, all web portals, and emails will automatically forward over the next year. Depending on the browser type, viewers will most likely receive a redirect message that may appear to be a warning. Please know this is a planned website change and it is safe to follow through with the suggested redirect to galvestontx.gov. Many customers may have the online payment portal for utility billing bookmarked for quick reference in submitting payment – this link will continue to forward but residents are encouraged to update personal bookmarks when redirect messages are received.

Currently the Technology Services Department is creating new email addresses for all City employees that will match the newly acquired domain. Within the next two weeks, you will notice that emails received from the City will reflect the new @galvestontx.gov extension – don’t worry! If you send an email using an @cityofgalveston.org address, it will continue to forward during this transition period but please do update your address book for future correspondence.

The City will provide updates throughout this process to ensure residents remain informed. Here is a quick overview of the changes that are coming soon!
• Emails from City employees will begin to show the updated @galvestontx.gov email addresses over the next two weeks.
• The City of Galveston’s official webpage will transition from www.cityofgalveston.org to www.galvestontx.gov over the next four weeks.
