On Monday December 19, 2016 Galveston’s Municipal Channel, G-TV, went live on AT&T’s U-verse for subscribers. Under channel “99”, residents in the Greater Houston Area are able to select “City of Galveston Municipal TV” to view the around-the-clock content provided by the city.

Municipal television often consists of live council meetings, informational videos on city services, and PSA’s from national organizations. But, as with most things, Galveston adds its own twist to public access. While the city still provides live broadcasts of council meetings, re-airings of past meetings, and informational pieces about city services, their content moves beyond that of typical municipal content for a City of Galveston’s size.

“While residents on the island have been able to enjoy Channel 16 on Comcast for years, bringing on the U-Verse coverage to the greater Houston area is a tremendous asset in the public information toolkit for us.” said Jaree Hefner, the City’s Public Information Officer. “Not only are we able to provide our messaging to a larger audience locally, we are also able to reach across the causeway and invite people to learn a little more about island life.”

Partnering up with the Galveston Parks Board and the Convention and Visitors Bureau, Galveston.com has been able to provide the City with additional dynamic content, as well as pieces that will appeal to those families considering visiting, or even moving to, the island.

The channel has also recently focused efforts on highlighting city staff through the “Employee Spotlight”, weekly updates through the City’s “Waves of Information”, and even helping the Galveston Humane Society adopt their rescues through a “Pets of the Week” feature.

Ready to tune in? On U-verse, select channel 99, click “Ok”, and select “City of Galveston Municipal TV” from the list. On Comcast, residents in Galveston can select Channel 16. Not a subscriber of either? You can watch the live stream of G-TV 24 hours a day, 7 days a week online at www.galvestontx.gov/gtv!
