On Friday, the Galveston Police Department graduated eight cadets from the its 75th In Service Academy. The cadets completed five arduous weeks of classroom instruction, police driving, firearms training, use of force, ground fighting and physical training. This additional training prepares the cadets for the demanding environment in which they will soon be working. It also exposes them to all aspects of their future career, and the professionals they will be working side by side with.

The class president was Anthony Tyler, a former Springfield, Massachusetts K-9 officer.

The Top Cadet Award was presented to David Guas, from Winnie, Texas. He earned the Top Cadet Award by vote of his fellow cadets and instructors.

Two cadets immediately began training this weekend on Nightwatch, with one following soon. The remaining cadets will be attending Basic Police Officer Academy at College of the Mainland and are expected to graduate in May.

If you are interested in the challenge of becoming a Galveston Police Officer, you can register for the next Civil Service Exam, Thursday Feb 9th, 2017.
