City Marshal’s Office Begins Soft Enforcement of Paid Parking Around UTMB Campus

 

(GALVESTON, TX) July 7, 2017 – At the March 23rd City Council meeting, City Council approved the conversion of certain parking area’s surrounding UTMB from student to paid parking. The decision was made in an effort to bring the use of the streets into compliance with city ordinances, while creating more space turnover and opening up parking for visitors to UTMB. The following streets will now be included:

 

  • 100 block of 13th Street
  • 1300 block of Strand
  • 300 block of 14th Street
  • 300 block of 12th Street
  • 400 block of 10th Street
  • 400 block of 11th Street
  • 500 block of Market
  • 400 block of Market
  • Holiday Drive from Harborside to Market
  

Now that signage is installed, the City Marshal’s office will begin soft enforcement during an introductory period and will be issuing warnings to those who have not paid to park. At the request of UTMB, parking rates have been structured to mirror that of the UTMB parking garages.

 

Parking Rates

  • Parking in the above streets surrounding UTMB will be enforced daily 24 hours a day.
  • Parking in these areas is $2.00 per hour or $14.00 per day.
  • PayByPhone transactions incur a 25-cent convenience fee per transaction
  • Payment is per license plate and is non-transferable
  • Handicap plates/placards and Disable Veterans plates are exempt
  • Improperly parked vehicles are subject to a $30 citation
  • The location code for this area is 5018
 

In addition, those parking in these areas may pay using credit/debit card through PayByPhone via the mobile app, online at paybyphone.com, or over the phone at 1-866-234-7275 using the location code above.
