HARVEY: Sunday (August 27th) Afternoon Update

Good morning Galveston, below are the updates from the City of Galveston for Sunday morning August 27th:

  • We are not advising residents who evacuated to return to the island due to road conditions/closures on the mainland
  • The City is not seeing significant street flooding outside of areas that are typically affected by high tide and rain
  • The 24-hour rain totals on the island for Saturday show 5.96" at the airport
  • Scholes International Airport reopened as of 8am this morning
  • The Port condition remains at Zulu which means no inbound/outbound traffic for the next 24 hours
  • No cruise ships will return to Port today due to 45 and Hobby Airport closures
  • Assessments are ongoing, but at this time we are only seeing isolated incidents of water and wind damage
  • The City’s high-water rescue vehicles remain on the island and ready for service
  • Our thoughts and prayers are with our neighbors on the mainland, including our employees and their families who have been affected by this storm

Please stay tuned to your local media for the latest, and stay weather aware as more rain is in the forecast. #harvey
