Lieutenant Doug Balli appointed to Assistant Chief of Police

Galveston, TX – August 17, 2018 - On Friday, August 17th, during the Galveston Police Department Promotion and Awards Ceremony, Police Chief Vernon Hale announced the appointment of Lieutenant Doug Balli to the position of Assistant Chief of Police.

Asst. Chief Balli began his career with the Galveston Police Department in 1994 as a patrol officer. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2003 and achieved the rank of Lieutenant in 2015. Throughout his career, Asst. Chief Balli worked in the Criminal Investigation Division, the Property Room and the Office of Professional Standards.

“GPD is fortunate to have outstanding leaders like Asst. Chief Balli,” said Chief of Police, Vernon Hale. “He is well respected by the rank and file as well as the citizens of Galveston. He will be a valuable asset to the Galveston Police Department Command staff.”

Assistant Chief Doug Balli is also a proud BOI. “I was born and raised on the island and I am truly honored to serve this great city,” said Asst. Chief Balli. “I am proud to work alongside the dedicated police officers of the Galveston Police Department.”

During the ceremony, four other promotions were announced. Sergeant Joel Caldwell was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. Also, Officer Daniel Erickson, Detective Jeff Banks, and Detective Charles Dodson were promoted to the rank of Sergeant.

Lieutenant Joel Caldwell has been with the Galveston Police Department since 2001. He currently commands the Animal Services Division. Lt. Caldwell achieved the highest score on the Police Lieutenant Exam.

Sergeant Jeff Banks has been with the Galveston Police Department since 2007. He is currently the lead detective in ‘Little Jacob’ case, which brought national media attention. Sgt. Banks achieved the highest score on the Police Sergeant Exam.

Sergeant Charles Dodson has been with the Galveston Police Department since 2011. Currently, he is a member of the U.S. Marshal Service Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force. He is also part of the Warrant Division and Mounted Police Units.

Sergeant Daniel Erickson has been with the Galveston Police Department since 2006. He is currently a Field Training Officer (FTO) and a member of the SWAT Division.
