Galveston Island will be under a coastal flood advisory beginning at 6 p.m. tonight and continuing into Thursday morning because of higher-than-normal tides.
The National Weather Service is forecasting tides about 1 to 2 feet above normal. High tide is expected at approximately 8:20 p.m., meaning potential flooding would be worst around that time. Still, high tides are expected to continue overnight. Rip currents will also be strong, according to the weather service.
With high tides, there is potential for street flooding in low-lying areas on the island.
Take note of the anticipated weather and avoid driving through standing water. People should also avoid swimming during this time, as rip currents could create dangerous conditions.
