Galveston, TX – Jan. 25, 2019 – Residents, businesses and property owners have a new tool to track planning-related cases – a demonstration of the City’s commitment to transparent government.
In recent months, the City’s Development Services and Information Technology departments have worked to develop a new mapping tool. The map covers cases that will be heard by the Building Board of Adjustment, Landmark Commission, Planning Commission and Zoning Board of Adjustment. The map also covers cases that will be reviewed and decided by the City Council.
“These departments have developed a tool to better serve our community and provide residents with information about what’s happening in their neighborhoods,” City Manager Brian Maxwell said.
The GIS map displays the location of each case with a pin on the map. Users can click on the pin to learn more about each case. This includes information such as the owner’s name, the address and the case description, among other things.
The pop-up information box also includes links to the City of Galveston’s Permit Center.
“This new resource is an outstanding representation of transparent governance, and of our core departmental values to be customer friendly and promote convenience to the public,” Director of Development Services Tim Tietjens said.
