Ribbon Cutting May 31 for new dog agility courses

GALVESTON, TX – May 22, 2019 – We invite members of the public to join us for a Ribbon Cutting Friday, May 31 for the new dog agility courses in Lindale Park.

The City of Galveston, Boy Scouts of America, Better Parks for Galveston and Galveston Regional Chamber of Commerce are hosting a Ribbon Cutting for the latest addition to the dog park next Friday, May 31st at 4 p.m. The event is open to the public and we encourage people (and their pets!) to join the festivities.

Galveston now has dog agility training courses for small and large dogs thanks to the efforts of a Ball High School student. Collin Somerville had the idea for his Eagle Scout Project after seeing a similar course in North Texas.

He started fundraising for the project last summer, and received donations from individuals and businesses for the project, including from Better Parks for Galveston, a non-profit that supports projects to improve local parks.

Earlier this year, Collin, along with friends and family, installed the equipment, which he’d purchased from Paw Power Agility Equipment. The City of Galveston agreed to build a fence and paid for those materials. Crews finished installing the fence in February. Dog owners have been enjoying the training courses at Lindale Park Dog Park since their installation.

Please join us for a Ribbon Cutting to celebrate the success of Collin’s efforts and to see the dog agility courses!
