City monitoring potential severe weather

The City of Galveston is preparing for severe weather expected early Wednesday morning.

At this time, there is a Flash Flood Watch in effect beginning at 1 a.m. Wednesday. The National Weather Service anticipates as much 4-6 inches of rainfall. We anticipate the highest potential for street flooding will begin around 6 a.m. Wednesday morning when high tides combine with precipitation.

The City has crews ready to dispatch and clear any fallen debris that could hasten street flooding. Remember to avoid driving in flooded roadways. Turn around and don't drown!

City buses and trolleys will not traverse flooded streets so please be aware that some bus routes may be delayed or canceled.

Do not create wake from fast moving vehicles that could flood homes or businesses.

Stay safe and follow the City of Galveston for updates.
