About the Citizens Police Academy
The Citizens Police Academy offers insight into all GPD divisions and special teams including Officer Recruitment and Training, Criminal Investigation, SW.A.T., Crime Scene Investigation, the K-9 Unit, Firearms Training, Vice and Narcotics. More importantly, it offers a unique opportunity to connect with your police department.
Presentations open a window into Galveston Police Department operations-what they do and why they do it. This is also a chance to become more involved in your community, network with others across the island, and ultimately come together in partnership with your police department officers to improve the security and well-being of neighborhoods and commercial areas alike.

The Galveston Police Department is excited to announce that the 58th Citizens Police Academy begins on Wednesday, July 10th. This session of the academy will be offered during the day and is a fast-track option. It will still include all of the same classes and interesting material, just done in a slightly shorter timeframe. This Academy will include 8 sessions, so it wraps up on August 21st (time and location of that class TBA since it will be graduation). We hope that you will take advantage of this great opportunity. Join us Wednesday mornings from 9:00am-12:30 pm. Classes will be held at Moody Methodist Church (2803 53rd Street) in the Parlor. There is no charge for the class or for the materials.
The mission of the Citizens Police Academy is to provide understanding through education. This course is designed to increase awareness of the function of the Police Department by educating citizens on topics related to the role of the Police Officer in their community. This course will strengthen ties between the Police Department and the community while providing knowledge and dispelling misconceptions. Come to experience this fun, interesting way to better understand how the Galveston Police Department serves You. The Citizens Police Academy is open to anyone age 18 and over. Applicants must either live or work in the City of Galveston. Due to the sensitive subject matter, applicants will be subjected to a background check. Participants must attend at least 9 class sessions to successfully complete the course.
