Residents will be able to access free, walk-up testing for COVID-19 on Saturday, June 13 at the Wright Cuney Recreation Center.
The Texas Military Forces and the City of Galveston have partnered to offer free testing to residents at the Wright Cuney Recreation Center, 718 41st Street, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Residents will need to present a photo ID and provide an address so that test results may be mailed.
To get tested, people will not be required to prove citizenship or a Galveston residence. The testing will be available by walk up with no appointment necessary.
“We’re very appreciative of the Texas Military Forces for providing this testing and we encourage residents to get tested as we’re seeing more cases locally,” City Manager Brian Maxwell said.
The Galveston County Health District on Wednesday reported 486 active cases in Galveston County. Increased testing helps prevent future cases because those who test positive know to self-isolate and limit contact with others.
