TXDOT to host virtual hearing on I-45 work

The Texas Department of Transportation will host a virtual hearing on Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at 5:30 p.m. regarding an upcoming project on I-45 between the Causeway and 61st Street. 

The TxDOT Houston District proposes to reconstruct and widen Interstate Highway (1)-45 from the Galveston Causeway Bridge to 61st Street in Galveston County, Texas. The virtual meeting will be available on the TxDOT website beginning Tuesday August 11, 2020 at 5:30 p.m. To log onto the virtual public meeting, go to www.txdot.gov, keyword search {1-45 South}. The virtual meeting will consist of a pre-recorded presentation by the project team, project exhibits and other information, and an opportunity to comment. If you do not have internet access, you may call (713) 802-5076 to ask questions about the project and access project materials at any time during the project development process.

The purpose of the virtual meeting is to present the planned improvements and to receive public comment on the proposed project. The proposed 1-45 improvements would include reconstructing and widening 1-45 from the Galveston Causeway Bridge to 61 st Street and adding a direct connector from northbound 61 st Street to northbound 1-45. The proposed project would require approximately 2.8 acres of additional right-of-way (ROW). 

The proposed project is anticipated to potentially displace three commercial structures. The proposed project would not displace any residential structures. Relocation assistance is available for displaced persons and businesses. Information about the TxDOT Relocation Assistance Program and services and benefits for displaced persons and other affected property owners, as well as information about the tentative schedule for right-of-way acquisition and construction, can be obtained from the TxDOT district office by calling (713} 802-5251. 

The proposed project would involve construction in wetlands. The proposed project would involve an action in a floodplain. Any environmental documentation or studies, maps and drawings showing the project location and design, and other information regarding the proposed project are available online at www.txdot.gov, keyword {1-45 South}. 

TxDOT makes every reasonable effort to accommodate the needs of the public. The virtual public meeting will be in English, though the pre-recorded presentation will also be available in Spanish.
