The City continues to monitor activity in the Gulf of Mexico. According to the latest update from the National Weather Service, Tropical Storm Laura is expected to make landfall as a category 2 hurricane on Wednesday night along the upper Texas Coast and Louisiana. However, there are uncertainties about the track so please stay connected for updates.
At this time, we urge residents to make sure you have essentials to last a few days and any medication you need. Be sure to secure any loose items on your property.
There are still many unknowns about Tropical Storms Laura and Marco. The City is in frequent contact with the National Weather Service and depending on how the storm tracks overnight, we anticipate a decision tomorrow about whether an evacuation is necessary. IF an evacuation is necessary, the city will alert residents via social media, traditional media and the emergency alert system. If you haven’t, please sign up for emergency alerts at galvestontx.gov/onecall
If you are medically-dependent on power, we recommend considering a safe location.
