Crews will be working hard this weekend to clear sand and other debris off streets in the West End.
The City of Galveston Public Works Department is working throughout the weekend to move sand from West End streets to the beach after getting approval from the Texas General Land Office to return the sand.
Teams will be out on Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. working in subdivisions along the West End beginning in Pirate’s Beach and extending west after Hurricane Laura left a wake of debris. Please be aware that there will be rolling barricades in the work zones, which will result in temporary road closures.
Strong winds and high tides from Hurricane Laura caused sand and other debris to blow over streets in areas not protected by the Seawall. Most of the West End subdivisions have sand and other debris in roadways.
Boddeker Road, a street extending along the ship channel to East Beach, will be closed over the next week while crews clear debris.
