City Manager Brian Maxwell provided an update during the Kiwanis meeting this morning about city operations, COVID vaccinations, ongoing construction projects, and other city-related news. Here are some highlights from the presentation and a link to a full video below:

Vaccine distribution is ramping up. The City remains in constant communication with UTMB and health officials regarding vaccines and stands ready to assist with distribution by providing space.

City facilities are open; however, we continue to take COVID-19 precautions to protect the health and safety of staff and the public

In anticipation of tax revenue declines, the City last year made cuts to each department's budget. Galveston has been fortunate to avoid experiencing the drastic sales tax reductions as other cities.

The City anticipates having 120-days operating expenses in the bank, which would increase the city to the highest possible bond rating.

The 25th Street project is on time, on budget, and on schedule.

The 49th Street project is running about 25 days behind schedule because of weather delays. The contractor expects to begin laying asphalt soon.

The 23rd Street project and Avenue S project are in design now. These are part of the 2018 county bond election. The county is paying for the road surface and the city is contributing to the utility work.

The City will soon begin work on a Church Street project and a 35th Street design. These are being completed in conjunction with the TXDOT Broadway project.

We are 50 percent in design for the city's first pump station on the island's East End. We're working toward securing funding for additional pump stations, incuding one by Offats Bayou, one by the 47 Street outfall and another just west of downtown.

And many more updates!
