City releases Lone Star Rally public safety statistics

LSR by Numbers

The Galveston Police Department had another busy special event with the just completed Lone Star Rally 2019. While attendance figures are still being compiled, below are some of the statistics for the event. The Galveston Police Department would like to thank the Galveston Area Ambulance Authority, the Galveston Fire Department, the Texas Department of Public Safety and our other state and federal partners for their welcomed assistance in maintaining our high standard of public safety for residents and revelers alike. We would also like to extend an extra special “thank you!” to all of the City of Galveston Public Works and Island Transit employees who spent the last few days keeping everyone safe as well.

In an effort to continue our practices of public communication and transparency, we are providing comparisons of public safety statistics for Lone Star Rally 2018 (11/01/2018 – 11/04/2018) and Lone Star Rally 2019 (10/31/2019 – 11/03/2019.)

The Texas Department of Public Safety as well as other state and federal law enforcement agencies have heavy presences on the island during this event. DPS specifically was assisting with traffic enforcement, including DWI enforcement.

In total there were seven (7) accidents with injuries that necessitated transport to UTMB for traumatic injuries during the time-frame listed above, all but one involving a motorcycle. All of the patients that were transported are still alive. The victims in the two fatality accidents were both wearing helmets. The patients in three of the remaining five were wearing helmets, while two were not.
